Will insurance cover my procedure and will you bill my insurance for my procedure?

Insurance coverage is based on criteria outlined by your specific insurance provider. It is best to check with your insurance company if you are unsure about whether your examination or procedure will be covered. Our office will inform you of applicable coverage and provide you with an out-of-pocket estimate prior to your appointment.

Please remember that even if your insurance plan covers a test, you will be responsible for any co-payment, co-insurance or deductible amount required by your insurance provider. We bill insurance providers as a courtesy to you, but ultimately you are responsible for any amount not covered by your insurance.

Our billing department will submit claims to your insurance providers on your behalf. Any amount not covered by your insurance providers, including deductibles and co-payments, will be billed to you. If you have questions about your insurance coverage, please contact your insurance provider directly

Will I have out-of-pocket expenses for this procedure?

The amount an insurance company pays for a test depends on a number of factors, including co-pay, co-insurance and any deductible amounts that need to be satisfied. Our office will provide you with an out-of-pocket estimate prior to your appointment. However, we always suggest contacting your insurance company to determine what, if any, out-of-pocket expenses you will be responsible for related to your procedure.

Can you provide me with a cost estimate for this procedure?

Yes. If you would like to get a quote for a procedure, please call 831-775-5200. Please provide as many details as possible and make sure your information is accurate, we can only provide quotes based on the information we are given. If your exam requires services that are different from, or in addition to, the original scope you provided, please understand that charges will change accordingly.

What is a co-payment? What is co-insurance? What is a deductible?

Co-payment (co-pay) is a fixed dollar amount determined by insurance providers that a patient must pay for physician office visits, prescriptions or hospital services. Remaining costs are covered by your insurance provider.

Co-insurance is a defined percentage of the charges a patient must pay for services rendered.

Deductible is the amount of eligible expense a person must pay out-of-pocket each year before an insurance plan will make payment for eligible benefits.

Do you offer payment plans?

Yes. Our office offers a variety of no-interest payment plans.  Please contact us at 831-775-5200 for more information or to arrange a no-interest payment plan.

Why am I getting a bill from a doctor whom I have never met?

The doctor on your bill is a specialist in radiology, trained to read and interpret MRI, CT, ultrasound and X-rays. Many times the radiologist does not meet with the patient because findings are reported directly to the patient’s primary doctor.

Why did I receive two bills for one examination?

The total cost for many medical services is comprised of two fees: technical and professional. Each fee is billed separately by the provider of the service.

The technical fee covers the cost of providing the technologists, equipment and supplies at the site where your examination was conducted.

The professional fee covers the cost of interpretation of your procedure by our radiologists.

If your radiological examination was performed at Salinas Valley Imaging, Coastal Valley Imaging or Valle Verde X-Ray Center, you will receive one statement that include the professional and technical components of your examination, because Salinas Valley Radiologists owns and operates these sites.

If your examination was performed at Salinas Valley Memorial Hospital, Nancy Ausonio Mammography Center or Natividad Medical Center, you will receive two bills. The professional component is billed by Salinas Valley Radiologists; the technical component is billed by the hospital.

What is a waiver and why have I been asked to sign one?

In the event that you decide to have a procedure that has not been authorized by your insurance provider, you will need to sign a financial responsibility waiver accepting responsibility for the procedure if your insurance carrier denies it.

If your procedure is authorized after signing the waiver, we will bill your insurance company appropriately and reimburse you for any overpayments.

When will you process my refund for an overpayment?

If you have been overcharged please call the phone number located on your billing statement at 1-800-475-3698.

I do not have insurance can you assist me?

Yes, we can assist you. You do not need insurance to receive medical services. Furthermore, all of our imaging centers offer generous discounts for self-pay/non-insured patients, as well as no-interest payment plans. If you would like to take advantage of these services, please contact us at 831-775-5200.

Who can I contact about my bill? Who can answer additional questions?
